That’s EXACTLY how it was for me too. Maybe I’m a slow learner or something, because it took me 2 years of constant struggle, late nights of pain and frustration and somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000 to finally figure it all out.
My first business (which I started in early 2006) was a Xerox repair business. When I finally figured out that I needed to earn income from something other than me being out on site fixing machines, just like everyone else, I turned to the internet for answers.
I registered for my first ever proper business training seminar and in the meantime started watching Youtube videos of the guy to see what he was all about.
Some clever Marketer used this business guru’s name as a keyword on Google and I was introduced to the Online Marketing Industry. And so it began…
The endless parade of internet marketing and sales training. I dove deep and never let up. I was relentless in my learning. After 2 years of failing at it I finally had success. I sold some stuff and built up a team. The reality of working that type of business struck home and I realised why I’d failed so long. You see…
Along the way, my Xerox clients and other business owners I knew started asking me for help with their businesses. Mainly the internet side. As I helped them, the results they were getting were stunning.
Because the stuff I’d learned as I was trying to build my home business was so cutting edge, and I was competeing against professional marketers, when I applied those same techniques to the traditional business world, they just cut through their competition’s efforts like a hot knife through butter. Page one rankings are a no brainer for them now.
I felt a real deep sense of satisfaction. Simply helping people who already have successful businesses, who want to harness the power of the internet and other technologies to reach even higher levels of success is my TRUE passion. That’s why I failed at home business so long. My heart just wasn’t in it and it showed in every presentation I did.
I’ve found that the businesses who continue doing business the way they’ve always done business actually end up going backwards.
After getting these results for my clients I found out that the old world doesn’t work any more. In the new world economy CONTENT IS KING!
You gotta give before you get! Providing great and valuable content to your potential clients helps them to feel empowered to make the right choice when they decide to buy from you. It positions you as an authority and an expert in your field. It helps to build rapport. It helps to build trust and credibility in your brand.
The most common mistake people make is thinking that it’s too hard to come up with great content to share. Or thinking that people won’t be interested in what they have to say. What I’ve found out is that, coming up with great content is really simple and fun if you’re passionate about your chosen industry. When you’re passionate about your work, it shines through in everything you do and they know you believe in what you’re offering. It makes the whole sales process fun and anxiety free. No Pressure.
