MLM Leadership Is A Term That Gets Thrown Around Quite A Bit

MLM Leadership is certainly an overused  term don’t you think?

Sure it’s vital to possess true leadership skills in this industry, or any for that matter, I think a lot of people in the network marketing profession get a bit too caught up on the trainings, information, dogma, indoctrination and philosophies. Which I love by the way, and the forget about a whole world of information that has been available for centuries.

I’d like to suggest that you take a step back for a minute and take a deep breath. Clear your mind and think about this:

I’ve run my own business for about 4 years now, the last year or so have included the network marketing profession.

Whilst I’ve learned tons about business, leadership, positioning, copywriting etc… etc… from being apart of it, the majority of what I’ve learned has actually come from

books, courses and seminars that have nothing to do with the network marketing profession whatsoever. Business is business, People are people (and predictable), networking is networking   (Even kids network) and marketing is marketing. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in, and of course, leadership is leadership is leadership…

I’ve found that for me, Leadership books that have nothing to do with business are very Refreshing to read when you come up for air occasionally. At the moment I’m reading the memoirs of Montgomery of Alamein . That’s Field Marshal Montgomery of WW 2 fame.

He was actually my great grand father’s cousin so I’ve been into his life story for a long time, being that it’s family history and all.

His dedication to his profession would put Mike Dillard to shame. Not really but you know what I mean. Hard core study and practice from about 1918 to 1942 before his techniques were really put to the test against Rommel, and we know how the story goes after that. The reason it’s so great to study his memoirs is because he basically lays out a blueprint to success in any endeavour. The steps he took to gain the knowledge and skills, and the struggles he had to face, his utter determination to succeed reads like any of the greatest business books you’ll ever read.

Nothing is being sold to me and the fact that it was always a matter of Life and Death, and not just getting leads and sales makes the information in these pages totally Powerful. Here are just a few excerpts. Not really quotes, just insights that appeal to me and where my head is at right now.

  • “An immediate decision was clearly vital”

  • “The ability to concentrate and sort the essentials from a mass of detail.”

  • “It had become very clear to me that the profession of arms was a life long study and that few officers seemed to realise this fact.

  • It was at this time that I decided to dedicate myself to my profession.
  • To master it’s details and to put all else aside.

  • It was not clear to me how all this would be done, and I knew none of the top leaders in the army.

  • …got on a course to learn…

  • ...struggled…

  • The way seemed clear but  was not easy as all that.

  • The story of my progress in the army is one of constant struggle linked to many setbacks and disappointments.

  • I Think that the story has had a happy  ending, for me, anyhow.”

I’ll post some more from him from time to time.
